As a senior, sometimes you feel that planning a Thanksgiving meal is a daunting task. Some people have been hosting their own family’s Thanksgiving for so many years, they have lost touch on what to do. Some of these foods can be found on Amazon. Be sure to check them out because Amazon has some great discount deals on various foods. Also, these foods on Amazon are great if you are in a hurry or on a budget.
So, here is some Thanksgiving Recipe for seniors that will be great to try out.
This pancake recipe is a great and healthy way to start your Thanksgiving morning.
[Berry nut pancake mix on Amazon]
What you need for this recipe is:
– 2 cups of all-purpose white flour (sifted)
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 2 tablespoon sugar (optional)
– 3 teaspoons baking powder (4 if the batter is thin)
– 1/2 teaspoon salt (if using salted butter, omit the salt in the batter)
– 1 cup chopped nuts or berries depending on what flavor you want. I used blueberry, so I added them at the end, so they don’t get crushed by mixing them with a mixer.
Method;
1) Combine all dry ingredients
2) Sift into a bowl to get rid of any clumps. If the mixture is thick, you can add one tablespoon of milk or water until slightly runny batter.
3) Fold in nuts/berries at the end with a spatula, so they don’t break up.
4) Cook on medium heat until golden brown. Flip over and cook until golden brown again for about 2 minutes on each side, depending on how hot your pan is.
Serves: 15 pancakes (5-6 inch diameter)
This is a great side dish for your Thanksgiving meal.
What you need:
-1 can of green beans (drained)
-1 cup French Fried onions chopped celery
-2 tablespoons butter salt and pepper to taste –
¾ cup mayonnaise
-3/4 cup sour cream
-½ tablespoon lemon juice
Method:
1) Sautee the green beans, celery, salt, and pepper in a pan until soft or semi softened. If it is still hard, don’t worry because it will be soft when you bake it for 8 minutes in the oven.
2) Combine all ingredients into a baking dish (the one you will use to bake your green bean casserole). This mixture should be enough for about 4-6 servings, depending on the size of the baking dish.
3) Bake in the oven for 8 minutes or until brown. Serve and enjoy!
This Thanksgiving recipe for seniors is also great if you are cooking for two. It’s easy to make and super tasty.
[Stuffed Turkey Breast on Amazon]
What you need:
-1 boneless turkey breast (skinless if possible but try to find one with skin on it)
-3 strips of bacon cut in half (you can use 1/2 cup more if you like)
-1 onion chopped finely or pressed garlic
-1 teaspoon thyme
-salt and pepper to taste –
Two tablespoons melted butter.
Method: 1) Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
2) Spread out the onions, garlic, salt, pepper, thyme into a baking dish that will fit your turkey breast.
3) Put your turkey breast in the pan so that all the spices cover it.
4) Fold up the bottom of the turkey breast, so all the ingredients are inside. Wrap the bacon strips around it and fasten with a toothpick or tie-up with kitchen twine.
5) Put two tablespoons of melted butter on top and cook for about one and a half to 2 hours (depending on your oven). Make sure you baste every 30 minutes so it won’t dry out too much. It should be brown. You can take it out before an hour if it’s already cooked but make sure you check the temperature in the middle by sticking a fork in the thickest part where there is no bone (it should go through quickly). If not, then put back in for another 20 minutes until fully cooked.
6) let rest for 15-20 minutes before cutting into slices or pieces, depending on how big it is.
Serves 6-8 servings depending on the size of turkey breast. This recipe can also be used for chicken or any other meat if you are not a fan of turkey.
